LaTreetha Elizabeth Sharpley, was born to Henry and Latreetha Henderson on June 27, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. She acquired the nickname Daisy at birth in honor of her god-mother Daisy Evans.
Educated in the Detroit Public School System, she graduated from Southwestern High School in June 1959. She continued her education, graduating from Wayne State University with a bachelor of science degree and from Central Michigan University with a masters degree. La Treetha worked for the City of Detroit for 20 years in various clerical, accounting and budget positions.
She married the love of her life, John L. Sharpley, Jr, on June 23, 1979. When John retired in 1990, they moved to Spring Hill, Florida and enjoyed many happy years traveling, fishing, bowling, and being active in church and community events. He preceded her in death in 2010.
After completing a State of Florida Professional Educator's Certificate, she taught Math and English for the Hernando County School Board from 1991-2004. As a teacher, she was a Teacher of the year finalist for the County several years and recipient of the Hernando County Superintendent's Excellence award in 2002 and 2003.
After retiring, LaTreetha continued to volunteer at Parrot School and was instrumental in taking a team of African-American students to the Annual Brain Bowl Competition in Tampa in 2006 and 2007. Her students won the competition in 2007. She also found time to volunteer at Hernando High School assisting seniors in applying for college scholarships.
Daisy and John became members of Rivers of Life Church Ministries in 1999. They were Heads of the Usher Ministry from 2001 to 2003 when they started a youth usher ministry. She continued serving as an usher until 2014.
She leaves to mourn: three sisters, Ernestine (James) Turner, Fredericka Harvey and Mary Horton; six nieces; four nephews; a god-daughter, Kelly Live-Free; a god-son, TeRahn Williams; other relatives; and many friends and acquaintances.
