John Michael Rowan 4/11/1949 - 7/18/2019
John’s story begins and ends with this – he was a man of GREAT COURAGE and strong convictions. John was born in Annapolis, MD into a military family, and spent much of his early life abroad. After returning to America, he resided in many of our great states, and as a young man settled in Michiana, IN/MI where he met his first wife, Phyllis, with whom he had two wonderful sons. He lived in Indiana and Virginia for the last 37 years, and for 22 years was the successful independent business owner of Rendezvous Tattoo in Blacksburg, VA until his retirement and relocation to Tampa, FL in the fall of 2018. John left school at an early age but went on to earn a GED, a degree in Police Science, and became a Registered Nurse. He mastered many crafts, trades, and skills over his lifetime, including earning a 5th-degree black belt in Taekwondo, becoming a Martial arts instructor, Harley Davidson mechanic, chef, jeweler, and an accomplished artist. His specialty in art was the human face, and his penmanship was uniquely outstanding. As “A Friend of Bill W’s”, John’s life touched many in a positive way, as he led by example. He was smart, intuitive and kind to small children and animals. He was a man of great compassion, a lover of all things wild and wonderful, and captured many beautiful images with his camera. He was devoted to his two beautiful fuzzy kitties for 19 years, showing great compassion for them in their advanced age by providing all possible comfort until the end.
This speaks for who John was from his core values. Compassion, patience and great love if you were part of his tribe.
